"As a qualified Midwife I have a particular passion for photographing maternity/ pregnancy and newborns.

I love capturing those special times in people's lives that mean so much - from engagement shoots to weddings, the nervous expectation of maternity to the sheer delight and love of a newborn. And then having the pleasure to capture the personalities and changes as a child grows".

Whangarei Photographer - Snuggly Boy

'Snuggly Boy' totally sums up this wee 11 day old lad. He was just so awesome, and long awaited by Mum and Dad.

When I arrived he was being fed, and Mum said he'd be off to sleep in a jif. But not him, he wanted to be awake. The reason I say he was so awesome is that he didn't wave his arms and legs around like other wakeful babys. He just lay there and was totally chilled, checking me out. He allowed me to move his arms and legs within reason, and told me when he didn't like the position.

After a bit more tucker, he still didn't want to close those eyes. But with a brief snuggle by Mum, he was totally out to it. So I was able to try a couple of positions that I haven't managed with other newborns.

Whangarei Baby Photographer - Tiny Mr T

At 5 weeks old this wee man is a bit older than I'd like to be photographing newborns, although he was 2 1/2 weeks early. But Mum assured me he was pretty chilled out. Unfortunately Mr T forgot to mention that it was his day to start cluster feeding so he could do one of his growth spurts. He was so funny, he didn't cry, just quietly grizzled (but that still makes his face screw up and go red). Sometimes we need reminding just who is boss during these shoots :)

This little boy had the most amazing coloured hair, and lots of it! We still managed to get some beautiful photos of him, even if we only managed to get him to doze briefly for each shot. Well done Mum and Dad!

I just love how he's checking out his Dad in this one.

Whangarei Photographer - Smiley Mr B

This young man was an absolute delight. He didn't stop smiling from the moment I saw him, and his Mum knew just how to get those huge big grins. Mr B's Mum and I used to run Parent Centre Childbirth Education classes together, but we haven't caught up since I gave them up (just a little too busy photographing these days). So it was a lovely afternoon catching up and getting in some cuddles - he was just as cuddly as he was smiley.

At 8 months old and teething (so therefore lots of dribble to wipe up), he was an incredibly chilled out boy! Our only problem was he is just starting to become mobile with a 'commando-crawl' thing happening - but boy can he move! We tried to get some indoor shots of him on all fours, but he thought it was a game and would giggle while his Mum lifted him up, and then he'd flop back down and motor off the rug. You just need to give up on some shots and remember who's boss :)

Whangarei Wedding Photographer - Donna & Murray

Most brides are pretty organised these days for their Wedding Day, but Donna was amazingly so. There was no rush or fluster on the morning of her wedding, just lots of fun enjoying the company of her family and bridesmaids........ and she was dressed and ready to go well ahead of time. So it was great to be able to spend a little bit of time photographing her around her parents lovely garden before leaving for the ceremony.

The biggest problem was trying to find a cool spot. This day was hot, even by 10am! But I have to take my hat off to the entire bridal party - they were agreeable to pretty much everything I suggested. Even by the end of the shoot they didn't appear to be wilting (much) - unlike the flowers, which didn't fair quite so well in the unrelenting sun.

Donna's dress was beautiful, and a little hard to explain the colour - I was definitely mesmerised - it was off-white with a hint of 'coffee' rather than cream. And the bridesmaids were in what I'd describe as 'latte' or 'mocha' (the colours kept changing in the different light).

Donna and Murray, thank you for such a lovely day. Here is a sneak peek of your images:

Whangarei Wedding Photographer - Kerry & Alarnya

Well, you would expect that a January wedding is a pretty safe bet when it comes to the weather, especially when you are getting married in a beautiful church, and have under cover options for your photo shoot. But most couples would not expect a tropical cyclone to strike the night before their big day, and either flooding or completely removing all the roads to your venue. And that is exactly what happened to Kerry and Alarnya. But not to be out-done, Alarnya and her resourceful bridesmaids managed to find a helicopter to fly her photographer (me), marriage celebrant and make-up stylist from Whangarei to Waitangi. The crazy thing was.... it was such a beautiful sunny day in the Bay of Islands, just lots of water below!

Kerry and Alarnya, thank you for flying me up to share your wedding day with you. I realise a number of your guests were unable to get through - so here are just a few pics, I didn't want to give too much away.

The sea around Waitangi is usually a beautiful deep green/ blue........

....... and the day went off without a hitch

I thoroughly enjoyed photographing this day. As you can see, the girls had attitude (and a lot of fun)...

.... and just when you've got everyone poised......... (don't ask me what happened!)
