"As a qualified Midwife I have a particular passion for photographing maternity/ pregnancy and newborns.

I love capturing those special times in people's lives that mean so much - from engagement shoots to weddings, the nervous expectation of maternity to the sheer delight and love of a newborn. And then having the pleasure to capture the personalities and changes as a child grows".

Double Trouble - Whangarei Children's Photographer

We had the pleasure of having two youngsters staying with us over the Xmas holidays, and it was great to see the older cousins getting to know and enjoy their overseas cousins.

Introducing my niece and nephew: "The Twinnies" - they are cousins, but only 3 months apart. Thank goodness only one was mobile, he sure gave us a workout ..........

This session was mostly for Mr J, little Miss S is staying a while longer so we will be photographing her again shortly.

Sweet Slumber - Whangarei Newborn Photographer

This little newborn was such a calm, quiet wee girl during her photoshoot. She happily let me play until it was time for a top-up, and then she remained awake but still quiet for her photos with her Mum and Dad.

Thank you for brining her to see me............

Growing families - Whangarei Baby Photographer

I had fun with this gorgeous wee boy in my studio this morning. I was really looking forward to meeting him and his big sister; I photographed his big sister when she was a newborn, so it is always a thrill to see them all grown up. I have a lovely photo of Miss 2 peeking down her brother's shirt to find where her Daddy had hidden 'a red lolly' - but that image will have to wait until later :-)

Shelly & Chris - Whangarei Wedding Photographer

Shelly has 'officially' been my sister-in-law for over 23 years, so I was really looking forward to photographing her and Chris' wedding day (even if that meant I had to hold off the wine until my job was done :-)

Newborn Safety

Newborn safety is a high priority for me when photographing newborn babies.
When choosing your photographer to capture those very early moments of your baby's life be careful who you trust to handle your precious wee bubs. Not all photographers are experienced with handling newborn babies. Newborns are so very flexible, and you need to take care when positioning them as they often wont move if a hand or foot starts going to sleep. As sturdy as they are, some positions you need to take extra care getting legs/ feet into position without placing strain on their joints.

I am well experienced with handling newborn babies - I am a qualified Midwife with several years experience working in Neonatal Intensive Care, plus I have three of my own - although they aren't particularly small these days :-)

A number of my poses are created with composites - that is when you have a parent holding/ supporting the baby and you take two or more shots, then merge them together to remove the parent's hands. Often I do this when the baby cannot possibly support themselves, or it is not safe to leave a baby on the prop (even though I am always just an arms reach from the baby).

Family - Whangarei Family Photographer

I have known this lovely family for many years through my youngest daughter playing sport. It was an honour photographing three generations of this family together.......... even if I missed out on my Sunday morning sleep-in (it was worth it :-))

Lucky Last - Whangarei Newborn Photographer

This little lady is my last Newborn Session for 2013. She was absolutely divine to photograph. She slept through all the position changes, blanket swaps, and putting on & off these gorgeous wee lacy pants (by Samantha Jane Designs). But she certainly had me a little worried when she first arrived with wanting to feed, and feed, and feed........ until I wrapped her up and rocked her.......... she drifted off pretty quickly..............

Whangarei Family Photographer - Here's to Summer Evenings

Photographing in the evenings during our Northland summer is the best light ever! I'm so glad we managed to time it just right for this family with their work commitments and our unpredictable weather. Luckily the wind wasn't constant, it just took a bit a patience between gusts :-)
Thank you boys for your co-operation and patience with your Mum's Xmas present!

Whangarei Portrait Photographer - Cousins

This little lady had her Newborn Session, then came back a few weeks later for some shots with her cousins. They were such co-operative and calm children in my studio, especially while we were trying to get little Miss P to sleep.

Whangarei Children's Photographer - Sweet girls

It has been two years since I last saw this family, so I was very excited to see how big this little lady had become. It is always amazing to see them all so grown up being big sister.
For not wanting to be photographed she did so very well. And her little sister at 3 mths old was all smiles too..........

Whangarei Portrait Photographer - Ducks, Monkeys and Tigers.....

To see the world through the eyes of a 2 yr old........... it is all just so exciting! For this little lady the park was such an amazing place to be - the ducks were real, the tiger just sat on the camera (not quite so exciting).......... but where were the monkeys?

Beautiful Bump - Whangarei Maternity & Baby Photographer

I had the pleasure of photographing this wee bubs while she was still a bump, and it is always so exciting to get to meet the wee one that was inside.
This little lady was so dainty, but gives such a beautiful big smile - which I was quick enough to catch (often they are so fleeting that I miss them). But when she was awake and her Muma spoke to her she gave a huge big grin in response. It is pretty impressive when she was only just over 2 weeks old!
