"As a qualified Midwife I have a particular passion for photographing maternity/ pregnancy and newborns.

I love capturing those special times in people's lives that mean so much - from engagement shoots to weddings, the nervous expectation of maternity to the sheer delight and love of a newborn. And then having the pleasure to capture the personalities and changes as a child grows".

Little Miss Wakeful

This wee lady made us work hard for her images, but we got there in the end. It wasn't like she was unhappy, she was just a wide awake bubs. She was only two weeks old but she was behaving much more like a 4 week old: awake and alert, eyes well focused (maybe another hockey player in the making already :-)). But once asleep she allowed me to move her around without too much of an issue. She is such a cutie!

A very big thank you to all my clients this year, and wishing you all a very Merry Xmas.

Whangarei Newborn Photogrpher - Sweet Rolls

This 5 day old baby girl was just so divine with her sweet rolls. She is the youngest newborn that I have photographed yet.......... and she slept through almost the entire session. In fact she only woke because we had to clean her up - and that was entirely my fault! I had squished her into a basket, and sometimes things just have to squish out!

With being so young she happily tolerated positions that older babies find a bit uncomfortable. So she let me play. Thank you Mum and Dad for bringing her to me straight away.

Three of a kind

These three boys must be some of the best behaved and co-operative kids that I have photographed. I'm really glad they were able to come out to me for some casual pre-Xmas portraits.

Mum must be very proud.......... she deserves to be!

Sweet Girls

I am so glad that I managed to squeeze in this wee lady, she was such an angel for me. Mum asked for her session to be 'girly', which I love :-) So we got to have a play with a few hats and headbands. At 9 days old she was just so sweet, with such gorgeous clear skin. This mummy sure knows how to make beautiful girls..............

Bright-eyed Miss B

This little lady traveled a long way to see me for her first photoshoot. So by the time she'd slept in the car and had a feed she was wide awake, and it was play time. And that was fine by me, it gave me a chance to get some lovely wakeful shots.

After some talking and playing it was time for a top-up and then sleep time. And it didn't take too long and she was happily snoozing. Such an angel :-)

Blonde Babe

I simply adore babies with hair, especially blonde hair! Probably because all three of my children were blonde, but they had virtually no hair when they were born. This wee guy had such beautiful long mousy-blonde hair (my kids had about this much by the time they were two!).

Mr J was a delight. He loved his hands up by his face - but not so much where I wanted them to be :-)
In the end we both compromised. Ha ha, we all know that newborns rule.............

Shannon & Donovan

A typical Northland day.......... one week out the forecast was for a sunny day..... 4 days out it was forecast for occassional showers...... 1 day out and the forecast was for rain with some thunder, easing to showers in afternoon. And Shannon must be one of the most chilled out brides that I have come across! A beautiful beach wedding was planned, and what a stunning location at Pataua North on private family land.

Luck was definitely on their side. It bucketed down twice while the girls were getting ready, and then cleared for the ceremony. The clouds made quite a statement for the bridal photos. I thoroughly enjoyed photographing this couple and their wedding day, they were simply stunning and so easy to photograph.

So here is just a quick peek...........

Busy

It doesn't rain, it pours!

The blog has been pretty quiet lately, with a number of parents requesting not to have photos published on-line. And that is fine.

This week I have got somewhat snowed under - a wedding, a school and two newborns all within 5 days ........ plus trying to find time to swap all my programs onto a new computer, and organise it to how I like with my workflow. Getting there :-)  Now just need a few extra hours in each day to get all this editing done!

Whew!!!

Newborns and a wedding preview to follow shortly (hopefully)

Spring Mini Sessions

And along with unveiling my new logo I would like to introduce my Spring Mini Sessions. These are limited bookings. Perfect timing for Xmas, held at my property....... beautiful and private location, set amongst stone walls, trees and open paddocks.........

Out with the old.... in with the new

Finally, finally I have finished my new logo design. I wanted something simple, classic, organic and scrummy....... A design that made me smile and feel warm..... something to reflect more closely how I photograph and how I wanted to be seen.

I hope you like it too........

One gorgeous wee lad

I was just so excited to meet this wee guy, I could hardly wait. Especially since I'd photographed his Mum and Dads wedding day. I love watching families grow..... and it just shows that no matter how much we love someone, we always have a never-ending supply to stretch to many more special people in our lives.

And just like his parents' wedding day, the day I photographed Mr T the weather played up - although at least this time I didn't need to get helicoptered in :-)

Although we didn't get to do a number of poses that Mum & Dad would have liked, Mr T did his parents proud. That is the great thing with photographing newborns, you can never predict how a session will go - they choose what poses they like, and how many they are willing for me to do.

Enjoy!

Spring Fever

Well Spring has finally sprung and the blossom is out. Hopefully the wet winter will move aside for some more warmer (and drier) blue sky days. I am tired of the slushy paddocks.

And so I have started to get motivated..........Lately I have been busy planning on updating my logo and design to more reflect my style of photography......... simple, organic, classic and beautiful.

So to celebrate I will shortly be announcing some Mini Session deals, just perfect timing for Xmas. Stay tuned............

Snug-as-a-bug

This 10 day old wee newborn certainly made me work hard during her photoshoot. She just wanted to be snuggled up with Mum. I managed to get her snoozing happily away on the warm beanbag, but then I'd decide to adjust her feet or hands. She didn't mind her feet being moved around, but she did not want her hand under her cheek....... or to wear a headband  :-)   ....... she just wanted her Mum.

Thanks Mum and Dad for your patience, your wee angle is just beautiful........

Oh, those cheeks........

This wee newborn was not quite so wee, nor quite a newborn at 3 weeks old. But she was just brilliant for her first photoshoot. She arrived wide awake so we started with her family shots, and after a bit of coaxing she happily dozed away.

With being a little older than most of my newborns she had filled out her cheeks, they were just soooo squishy! And she was such a calm contented wee lass........

This one was requested by Dad

Composites

Newborn safety is my number 1 priority, so some poses are just not safe enough to leave baby in just to get a shot. That is where composites come in handy - that is where 2 or more images are taken of baby, while Mum or Dad hold them. Then their hands are removed later on in Photoshop.

Unfortunately not all photographers are this careful (or aware), and will attempt some of these poses without having baby supported. Please be careful when selecting your newborn photographer.

I took these images while attending a workshop in Adelaide, run by Danielle Loxton of Words are Not Enough Photography. Enjoy!

Baby was barely an inch above the beanbag.

L for Loved

I know you're not supposed to think of a boy as beautiful, but 'beautiful' certainly sums up this wee newborn. For a start he had the most amazing amount of dark hair that just sat perfectly, and dainty little lips. He was a real charmer, giving me a few quick smiles (unfortunately I'm just not that quick with my camera). And teasing me with opening his eyes but then shutting them again as soon as I got my camera ready. He was a joy to photograph. Here is a quick preview of his images. Enjoy!

Sweet Dreamer

This wee lass wasn't quite a newborn at 5 weeks old when she came to see me, but she was still a tiny little bundle. What got my attention when she first arrived was her beautiful porcelain white skin, it almost glowed!

It didn't take me long to work out how she liked to be soothed off to sleep, and once she was sound asleep she let me play. But she certainly didn't appreciate me disturbing her again :-) She did her Mum and Dad very proud! Here is a quick preview......
